Are dermal fillers needed before a filler-dissolving injection?

A filler-dissolving injection, often called hyaluronidase, is used by a trained clinician to break down suitable hyaluronic acid filler. It is not a preparation step for receiving filler. The clinician first needs to establish what product was injected, where it was placed, when it was used, and why reversal is being considered. Different filler materials may not respond to the same dissolving treatment.

Bring the name of the filler, treatment date, batch information if available, and details of any previous dissolving injections. A clinician may assess swelling, asymmetry, lumps, tenderness, or a suspected complication before deciding whether reversal is appropriate. Do not inject, massage, or add more filler to the area unless your treating professional specifically advises it.

After filler, urgent assessment is needed for severe or increasing pain, unusual skin pallor or darkening, blistering, or rapidly worsening swelling. Vision changes, severe headache, weakness, or difficulty speaking require emergency care. Do not wait for a routine appointment if these symptoms appear, because the cause needs prompt evaluation.
