Is cryotherapy for lesion removal done with a cryotherapy device?

A clinician positions the device near or against the lesion and applies cold for a planned interval. The freezing action damages the selected tissue while the surrounding area is protected as far as practical. The exact applicator and technique depend on the lesion's appearance, thickness, location and clinical diagnosis.

The treated spot may sting, feel cold or become pale during application. Later it can be red, swollen, blistered or crusted before healing. Cryotherapy is suitable for some diagnosed lesions, but a changing, bleeding or uncertain lesion may need assessment or sampling before treatment.

Tell the clinician about poor wound healing, reduced sensation, circulation problems, immune conditions and medicines that affect bleeding. After treatment, keep the site clean and follow the dressing instructions. Do not deliberately break a blister or peel a crust; protect the area from rubbing and sun while it heals.

Use only the creams or pain relief recommended for you. The clinician may arrange a review to check healing or decide whether another session is appropriate. Avoid treating a lesion at home with freezing products when its diagnosis has not been confirmed.

Contact the clinic if pain is increasing rather than settling, redness is spreading, pus appears, or the wound becomes increasingly warm or swollen. Seek prompt assessment for fever, heavy bleeding, a rapidly changing treated area or symptoms of an allergic reaction. Eye-area treatment needs urgent advice if vision changes or significant swelling develops.

Ask what lesion is being treated, which device and cold agent will be used, what the area may look like during healing, and whether a follow-up is needed. Confirm how to dress the site and which symptoms should trigger a call.
