Is chemical peel done with mandelic acid?

Mandelic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid used to loosen bonds between surface skin cells. A peel containing it is applied for a controlled period and then removed or allowed to neutralise according to the product protocol. The intended effect is surface exfoliation, which may help uneven texture, dullness or some forms of discolouration. Its suitability depends on skin sensitivity, active irritation, previous reactions and the reason for treatment. The strength, contact time and preparation matter more than the ingredient name alone. Mild warmth, tingling, tightness or peeling can occur afterwards.

Tell the clinician about eczema, cold sores, recent waxing, retinoid use, active acne treatment and any history of dark marks after irritation. Follow the requested pause in irritating products, and do not apply mandelic acid at home to imitate a professional peel. After treatment, use the recommended bland moisturiser and broad-spectrum sunscreen, avoid picking flakes, and postpone scrubs or other strong actives until the skin has recovered. A patch test or cautious first session may be considered when sensitivity is a concern.

Contact the treating clinic if swelling, burning, blistering, worsening pain, spreading redness or marked colour change develops. Seek urgent medical help for facial swelling with breathing difficulty, faintness or widespread hives. A little dryness or light shedding may be expected, but symptoms that intensify rather than settle need assessment.
