A glucose tolerance test checks how your body handles a measured glucose drink over a set period. It may be recommended during pregnancy when your maternity team wants more information about blood sugar control. An antenatal care package is a broader set of pregnancy visits, assessments and support. It can include routine checks, discussions about symptoms, and planning for later pregnancy care. The package and the test are related to pregnancy monitoring, but one does not automatically have to be completed before the other.

Follow the testing instructions from the clinic, particularly any advice about eating, drinking, medicines and arrival time. Tell the team if you have diabetes, take regular medicines, feel unwell, or have previously had difficulty with glucose testing. Ask whether the result will be discussed during a routine antenatal visit or through a separate appointment.
