Is anaphylaxis emergency treatment done with an adrenaline auto-injector?

Anaphylaxis is a rapidly developing allergic emergency. Signs can include swelling of the lips or tongue, trouble breathing, wheezing, faintness, widespread hives, vomiting, or a sudden feeling that something is seriously wrong. Adrenaline helps support the circulation and open narrowed airways while urgent help is arranged.

Use the prescribed device according to its instructions, usually by pressing it against the outer thigh through clothing if necessary. The device is a first response, not a substitute for assessment in an emergency department.

Call emergency services immediately, use the adrenaline auto-injector without delay when anaphylaxis is suspected, and tell the person to lie down with legs raised unless breathing is easier sitting up. Do not let them stand or walk. If symptoms continue or return and another device is available, a second dose may be needed according to medical advice and the device instructions. Keep the used device for responders.

Seek emergency care for any suspected anaphylaxis, even if symptoms improve after adrenaline. Symptoms can return, and observation may be needed. Tell responders what caused the reaction if known, when symptoms began, and how many doses were given.
