Is acne scar laser treatment done with CO2 laser?

CO2 laser is an ablative laser: it removes controlled layers of the skin and heats deeper tissue. This can soften the edges and improve the surface of some depressed acne scars by encouraging new collagen during healing. It is not the right match for every scar. Ice-pick scars, rolling scars, raised scars, and changes in skin colour may need different or combined approaches. Active acne, a tendency to form thick scars, recent tanning, or certain medicines can affect eligibility. The treatment area may be red, swollen, tender, and sensitive while the surface repairs.

Have the clinician assess whether acne is still active and identify each scar pattern before choosing a laser. Discuss previous cold sores, abnormal scarring, pigmentation changes, allergies, and all skincare or prescription medicines. Follow the preparation plan, which may include avoiding irritating products and sun exposure. After treatment, use only the cleanser, ointment, and sun protection recommended for the healing stage. Do not peel crusts or restart strong active ingredients until the skin has recovered. Several approaches may be considered when scars have different depths.

Contact the treating clinic promptly for increasing pain, spreading redness, pus, fever, worsening swelling, blisters, or delayed healing. Seek urgent help for breathing difficulty or swelling of the lips or face. New or worsening dark or light patches should also be reported, particularly in skin that marks easily.
