Intertrigo natural treatment: practical guidance

Short answer
Natural treatment for intertrigo focuses on gentle cleansing, thorough drying, less friction, and breathable clothing while watching for infection.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

How the rash develops
Intertrigo forms in folds when heat, sweat, and rubbing irritate the skin. The affected area may feel itchy, raw, burning, or tender. It can appear beneath the breasts, in the groin, between abdominal folds, or in the armpits. Yeast and bacteria can take advantage of damaged, damp skin, changing the rash or adding odor and discharge. The condition called Intertrigo describes the fold inflammation; it does not by itself reveal whether an infection is present.
What you can do
Clean the fold gently, rinse away cleanser, and pat dry rather than scrubbing. Give the area air when practical and choose loose clothing that does not trap heat. Change after sweating and keep towels, underwear, and clothing clean and dry. A soft dry fabric barrier can limit rubbing, but replace it when damp. Do not apply toothpaste, undiluted vinegar, alcohol, perfume, or essential oils; these can worsen irritation. If simple care is not enough, ask about Topical Antifungal Treatment or another diagnosis before adding products.
Signs you need an examination
Contact a clinician when the rash continues, returns often, or interferes with walking, exercise, sleep, or washing. Prompt evaluation is appropriate for spreading redness, warmth, swelling, pus, a strong new odor, bleeding, or an open sore. Fever or feeling faint or unwell warrants urgent medical advice. Treatment differs when the problem is yeast, bacteria, eczema, or an allergy.
Questions for your doctor
What is the likely trigger in this fold? Should I use a barrier, antifungal, or another treatment? What should I do if the skin cracks or becomes wet?
