Intertrigo natural remedies: what may help

Intertrigo is irritation where warm, moist skin surfaces touch. It may affect the groin, under the breasts, the armpits, or an abdominal fold. Sweat, friction, and trapped moisture weaken the skin surface. A yeast or bacterial infection can then develop, causing a brighter rash, soreness, odor, discharge, or small spots around the main rash. A skin rash or itchy groin can have other causes, so appearance alone does not identify the cause.

Wash gently with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free cleanser, then pat the fold completely dry. A cool hairdryer setting can help without rubbing. Wear loose, breathable clothing and change damp garments promptly. Reduce skin-on-skin friction with a clean, dry soft layer; stop any product that stings or makes the area wetter. Avoid lemon juice, vinegar, essential oils, harsh scrubs, and fragranced powders because they can irritate broken skin. Arrange a medical assessment if the area is open, increasingly painful, warm, swollen, foul-smelling, draining, or spreading.
