Intertrigo in the Buttocks Crack: Treatment and Care

Intertrigo is irritation where warm, damp skin surfaces rub together. In the buttocks cleft, sweat, limited airflow, tight clothing and stool or urine residue can keep the fold inflamed. The skin may look red, sore, shiny or cracked, and it can sting or itch. A yeast infection can develop in the damaged, moist area; this is different from ordinary friction irritation.

Rinse with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free cleanser, then pat the cleft dry rather than rubbing. Change out of damp underwear promptly and choose breathable, loose clothing.
