The groin folds may become red, sore, itchy, moist, or cracked. Sweat, tight clothing, prolonged dampness, and repeated rubbing can weaken the skin barrier. The rash may involve the crease beside the genitals without involving the internal genital structures. Burning with urination, unusual discharge, sores, or pain inside the genital area points to a problem that needs a broader assessment rather than assuming it is intertrigo. A skin yeast infection is one possible complication, particularly when the fold stays warm and wet.

Rinse gently, avoid scrubbing, and dry by patting rather than rubbing. Wear breathable underwear and change it after sweating. Keep products such as deodorants, scented wipes, and fragranced washes away from irritated skin. Do not place antifungal, steroid, or combination creams on mucosal surfaces unless a clinician or pharmacist has confirmed that product is suitable. If yeast is suspected, a topical antifungal treatment may be advised for the external skin. Moisture that keeps returning can be discussed with a clinician, including whether prescription antiperspirant is appropriate.
