What should you know about insert nuvaring?

NuvaRing is a flexible vaginal ring that releases contraceptive hormones while it is in place. It does not need to sit in one exact position to work; comfort and following the prescribed schedule matter. It may be felt briefly during insertion, but persistent pain, pressure, or repeated slipping out deserves advice. The ring is different from a diaphragm and is not a barrier that covers the cervix. Your clinician should check whether combined hormonal contraception is suitable, especially if you have migraine with aura, a history of blood clots, certain liver conditions, or smoke.

Wash and dry your hands. Choose a relaxed position, such as standing with one leg raised, squatting, or lying down. Pinch the ring between your fingers and gently guide it into the vagina until it feels comfortable. It can be removed by hooking a finger under the rim and pulling softly. Follow the product instructions for how long to leave it in and when to replace it. If it comes out, rinse it as directed and follow the missed-ring instructions supplied with your product or clinic. Use a backup method when those instructions advise it.

Get urgent help for sudden chest pain, trouble breathing, coughing blood, severe headache, new weakness, vision change, or painful swelling in a leg. Contact your clinician for persistent vaginal pain, unusual discharge, fever, inability to remove the ring, or repeated expulsion. If pregnancy is possible or the ring schedule was interrupted, seek prompt advice about emergency contraception and ongoing protection.
