Short answer

Inner forearm pain from bicep curls commonly reflects grip or wrist overload, so change the exercise and assess symptoms before adding load.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

At a glance

Technique focus
Keep the wrist steady and avoid an unnecessarily tight grip
Training response
Stop sharp pain rather than testing it through repeated sets
Red flag
A pop, bruising, sudden weakness, or visible arm change

Why curls can provoke pain

During a curl, the forearm muscles stabilise the wrist and control the hand as the elbow bends. A heavy dumbbell, tight grip, bent wrist, sudden increase in training, or repeated sets can make these tissues work harder than expected. Pain close to the inner elbow may overlap with golfer's elbow; outer elbow symptoms have a different pattern and may overlap with tennis elbow. A sharp pop, bruising, sudden loss of strength, or pain that is present even at rest needs more than a technique adjustment.

How to modify training

Stop the curl that causes pain and compare whether a lighter load, neutral wrist, slower movement, or a different handle changes symptoms later—not by pushing through sharp pain. Avoid gripping the handle as tightly as necessary. Train pain-free lower-body or trunk movements while the arm settles, if they do not stress the forearm. Rebuild with easy resistance and rest between sessions; a physiotherapist can assess your lifting pattern and prescribe graded strengthening.

When to get checked

Arrange an assessment if symptoms return each time you train, affect daily gripping, or remain after you reduce the provoking exercise. Seek prompt care for a pop with bruising, visible change in the arm, sudden weakness, or inability to rotate the forearm. Urgent evaluation is needed for severe swelling, numbness, a cold or discoloured hand, or rapidly worsening pain.

Questions for your doctor

Is my wrist position or grip contributing to the pain? Which curl variation is appropriate during recovery? When can I restart progressive loading? Do I need an examination for the elbow, tendon, or nerve?

Questions people ask

Should I stretch the forearm after curls?

Gentle movement may be comfortable, but forceful stretching can aggravate an irritated area; stop if it sharpens symptoms.

Can I switch to another curl?

Only if it is comfortable during and after the session; use less resistance and stop if pain returns.
