Indigestion pain in ribs: what it can mean

Indigestion often feels like burning, pressure, fullness, or discomfort in the upper abdomen. The sensation may sit under either rib margin because the stomach and upper digestive organs lie there. Bloating or trapped gas can add a stretching feeling. Acid reflux may bring a sour taste or burning that rises towards the chest.

Pain under the right ribs can also arise from the gallbladder, while irritation of the stomach lining or an ulcer can cause upper abdominal discomfort. A symptom does not identify one condition by itself. Notice whether eating, lying down, movement, or a deep breath changes it.

Keep meals modest, eat slowly, and avoid lying flat soon after eating. Temporarily reduce foods or drinks that clearly trigger symptoms, such as rich meals, alcohol, or strong coffee. Keep a note of the location, timing, meal relationship, and any heartburn, belching, nausea, or bowel changes.
