Indigestion and lower abdominal pain

Short answer
Indigestion with lower abdominal pain can have digestive, urinary, or gynaecological causes, so the pattern and warning signs guide assessment.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.
At a glance
- Pain location
- Lower abdominal pain may be pelvic rather than indigestion
- Key context
- Pregnancy possibility, bleeding, fever, and bowel or urinary changes
How the symptoms can fit together
Indigestion usually describes upper abdominal discomfort, burning, belching, nausea, or feeling full. Pain low in the abdomen or pelvis may instead reflect bowel, bladder, reproductive-organ, or abdominal-wall problems. Gas and constipation can create pain in more than one area, while period-related symptoms may overlap with digestive upset.
Pelvic pain can be a presentation of conditions such as endometriosis, fibroids, ovarian cysts, pelvic inflammatory disease, adenomyosis, or ectopic pregnancy. These possibilities cannot be separated safely from symptoms alone, and a symptom does not establish any one diagnosis. Pregnancy possibility, bleeding, fever, urinary changes, bowel changes, and the exact location of pain all affect the assessment.
What you can do now
Note when the pain began, where it is strongest, whether it moves, and what happens after food, bowel movements, urination, or your period. Drink fluids, choose lighter meals, and avoid foods that clearly trigger burning or bloating. Do not start antibiotics or repeated pain medicines without advice, particularly if pregnancy is possible.
Arrange a clinical assessment if symptoms persist, recur, or limit normal activity. A clinician may ask about periods, sexual health, pregnancy possibility, medicines, and bowel or urinary symptoms before deciding whether examination or testing is needed.
When to seek urgent care
Seek urgent assessment for sudden or severe pain, fainting, shoulder-tip pain, heavy vaginal bleeding, fever with pelvic pain, repeated vomiting, a rigid or swollen abdomen, blood in vomit or stool, or inability to pass urine. If pregnancy is possible, pain with bleeding, dizziness, or one-sided tenderness needs urgent review because ectopic pregnancy can become dangerous quickly.
Questions for your doctor
Tell the clinician the pain location, timing, severity, period date, pregnancy possibility, bowel and urinary changes, and medicines taken. Ask which symptoms require emergency help and whether you need a pregnancy test, examination, or further assessment.
