What should you know about impetigo on stomach?

A patch on the stomach may begin as an itchy red area, a small blister, or a scratch that becomes moist and crusted. Impetigo often forms yellowish or honey-coloured crust, although appearance varies with skin tone and stage. Scratching can move bacteria to nearby areas or under the nails. Heat, sweat, tight clothing, eczema, and insect bites can make the skin easier to damage. The appearance alone cannot establish the diagnosis, because dermatitis and other infections may also crust.

Have a clinician assess the area, particularly if it is expanding or there are several patches. Follow the prescribed treatment exactly; a small localised area may be treated with a topical antibiotic, while broader infection may need an oral antibiotic. Wash gently, pat dry, cover the sore with a clean dressing if advised, and resist scratching. Wash hands often, keep towels and clothing separate, and clean items that touch the skin.
