What should you know about immunohistochemistry companies?

A laboratory may use a company’s primary antibodies to bind to a selected protein in a tissue section. A detection system then creates a visible signal, allowing a pathologist to assess where that protein appears and how strongly it is expressed. Other companies provide automated staining instruments, controls, slides, image-analysis tools, or laboratory support. A company name on a report usually identifies a product or service provider; it does not by itself diagnose cancer or determine which treatment is appropriate.

Read the pathology report for the test name, tissue source, markers examined, and the pathologist’s interpretation. Keep the report with other biopsy records. If a product name or laboratory abbreviation is unfamiliar, ask which result matters clinically and whether the test was performed on an adequate sample. The laboratory team can explain technical details, while your treating clinician connects the findings with imaging, symptoms, and the wider diagnosis.

Contact the clinic promptly if you have not received an expected pathology result, if the report says that testing is limited by scant or damaged tissue, or if a clinician asks for more tissue. Seek urgent medical help for severe breathing difficulty, uncontrolled bleeding after a biopsy, or sudden confusion. The company that supplied a test does not replace clinical advice.
