I shaved down there and now there are bumps

A freshly cut hair may curve back into the skin, causing a firm, itchy, or tender bump. Friction, sweat, shaving gel, and repeated passes can inflame follicles. Folliculitis may cause clusters of red or pus-tipped spots. A rash that does not follow shaved follicles, blisters, sores, discharge, or pain with urination may have another cause and should not be assumed to be a shaving reaction.

Pause shaving and avoid waxing until the skin is calm. Rinse gently, pat dry, and wear breathable underwear and loose clothing. A warm, clean compress may soothe a tender bump. Do not squeeze, lance, scratch, or use harsh scrubs, perfumes, or strong acne products on genital skin. Avoid sexual contact if lesions are painful, open, blistered, or unexplained, and arrange an examination rather than treating them by guesswork.

Seek prompt medical care for spreading redness, increasing warmth, pus, severe pain, fever, red streaks, or a lump that grows quickly. Arrange assessment for blisters, ulcers, bleeding, unusual discharge, swollen groin glands, or symptoms after a new sexual contact. Emergency care is needed for severe illness or rapidly spreading swelling. Repeated shaving-related bumps can be discussed with a clinician, including whether laser hair removal is appropriate.
