I have bed bug bites but cannot find the bugs

Bed bugs can hide in mattress seams, bed frames, cracks and nearby furniture, and their bites may appear later than the exposure. Marks may be itchy red bumps, sometimes grouped or arranged in a line, but appearance overlaps with reactions to fleas, mosquitoes, contact irritants and other skin conditions. Some people develop little or no visible reaction, so the absence of marks does not settle the question.

Inspect seams, bed-frame joints and nearby crevices with a torch, looking for insects, shed skins or dark spotting. Avoid moving bedding or furniture between rooms, and consider professional pest inspection if signs continue. Wash and dry bedding according to its care instructions. Cool compresses and gentle cleansing can reduce irritation; a clinician may consider Antihistamine Treatment or Topical Corticosteroids for troublesome symptoms.

Get medical advice if scratching has caused spreading redness, warmth, pus or increasing pain, or if the rash is not settling.
