I got itchy bumps on my skin: what should I know?

Raised welts that appear suddenly and move or fade can fit Hives. Dry, cracked, intensely itchy areas may occur with Asteatotic Eczema or Atopic Dermatitis. A rash limited to skin touching a new soap, fragrance, metal, or fabric suggests Contact Dermatitis. Ring-like or moist rashes may need assessment for Skin Yeast Infection. Persistent thickened or scaly patches can occur with Psoriasis or Lichen Planus. Itching that is worse at night, with bumps between fingers or around household contacts, raises concern for Scabies.

Use cool compresses, short lukewarm showers, and a plain fragrance-free moisturizer. Wear loose soft clothing and keep fingernails short to reduce skin breaks from scratching. Stop newly introduced cosmetics, detergents, or topical medicines until the cause is clearer. Do not apply steroid, antibiotic, or antifungal creams broadly without guidance, because the wrong product can mask or worsen some rashes. Note the start time, exposures, body sites, and whether anyone close to you is itchy.

Seek emergency help for itchy bumps with trouble breathing, swelling of the lips or tongue, faintness, or widespread blistering. Arrange prompt medical care for fever, pus, painful warmth, rapidly spreading redness, purple spots, or involvement of the eyes or mouth. A routine review is useful when the rash persists, recurs, disrupts sleep, or affects other people in the home.

Ask which pattern best fits the rash, whether a recent exposure or medicine is relevant, whether close contacts need assessment, and which treatment is safe for the affected body area.
