I get red bumps after shaving: what should I know?

Bumps that sit where hairs grow and feel sore or itchy can occur with Ingrown Hairs or Folliculitis. A pattern along the beard area, especially after close shaving, is often called Razor Bumps. Tiny rough bumps on the upper arms or thighs that are not limited to shaving may fit Keratosis Pilaris. Redness alone can also come from razor friction, pressure, or a product applied after hair removal.

Stop shaving the affected area until it feels calmer. Rinse gently, use a cool compress for burning, and moisturize with a fragrance-free product. For the next shave, soften hair with warm water, use a clean sharp razor and plenty of shaving gel, make one light pass in the direction of growth, and avoid stretching the skin.
