I feel itching in my throat

Dry air, smoke, dust, strong fragrance, or mouth breathing can irritate the throat. Seasonal allergy or sensitivity to a food can cause itch with sneezing, runny nose, coughing, or mouth symptoms. A viral illness may add soreness, congestion, or fever. Reflux can irritate the throat without obvious heartburn. Skin conditions such as Atopic Dermatitis, Contact Dermatitis, Hives, or Psoriasis may be relevant when throat itch occurs alongside an external rash, but throat itching alone does not diagnose any of them.

Sip water, avoid smoke and fragranced sprays, and use a humidified environment if the air is dry. Notice whether symptoms follow a particular food, medicine, pet, or product, and avoid a suspected trigger until assessed. Do not test a suspected food allergy at home. A clinician can decide whether allergy treatment, infection care, or reflux measures are appropriate.

Call emergency services immediately for throat tightness, trouble breathing or swallowing, voice change, swelling of the lips or tongue, dizziness, or rapidly spreading hives, particularly after eating or taking a medicine. Arrange review for persistent symptoms, fever, severe pain, repeated episodes, or a rash that does not settle.
