What should you know about hyaluronic acid injections under eyes?

A clinician may place a small amount of hyaluronic acid gel beneath the lower eyelid area to change a hollow or shadow. The area is thin and mobile, and swelling, bruising, puffiness, bluish discoloration, lumpiness, or asymmetry can occur. The appearance immediately after treatment may not reflect the settled result.

Under-eye darkness can have several contributors, including pigment, visible vessels, skin texture, shadow, and loss of volume. Filler may not address every cause. A proper examination should establish whether injection is suitable and whether another option better matches the concern.

Tell the injector about allergies, eye disease, previous filler, swelling under the eyes, medicines, skin conditions, and prior surgery. Ask what product is planned, where it will sit, how the area will be reviewed, and how an unwanted result or complication would be managed.

Plan for visible swelling or bruising and follow instructions about rubbing, pressure, heat, exercise, makeup, and skincare. Do not press or massage the area unless specifically advised. Keep the product name and treatment date for future medical care.

Contact the clinic if swelling, redness, warmth, discharge, or pain is worsening. Seek urgent medical assessment for vision change, eye pain, severe headache, pale or dusky skin, facial weakness, trouble speaking, or rapidly increasing swelling. Eye-related symptoms after an injection should be treated as urgent rather than observed at home.

Ask whether your concern is caused by hollowing, pigment, shadow, or another feature; what product and plane are planned; who will review you; and what symptoms require emergency help. Ask about alternatives if filler is unlikely to address the cause.
