What should you know about hyaluronic acid for skin?

Hyaluronic acid attracts and holds water in the outer layers of skin. This can make dry skin feel more supple and temporarily improve the appearance of fine surface lines caused by dehydration. It does not remove scars, treat every rash, erase pores or stop the effects of sun exposure. The result depends on the product formula, the condition of the skin barrier and what is applied afterward.

Apply a simple hyaluronic acid product to slightly damp skin, then use a moisturiser to help reduce water loss. Cleanse without harsh scrubbing and use daytime sun protection that suits your skin. Introduce one new product at a time so you can identify the cause if irritation appears. If dryness is severe, itchy, scaly or localised, a clinician can check for eczema, dermatitis or another condition instead of treating the symptom alone.

Stop the product if you develop persistent stinging, swelling, hives, blistering or a spreading rash. Seek urgent help for breathing difficulty or swelling of the mouth or tongue. Arrange a clinical review for painful cracks, bleeding, infection signs, widespread scaling or dryness that does not improve with gentle care.
