Hyaluronic acid is a water-binding substance formulated as a gel for some injectable treatments. In the buttocks, a clinician may use it to refine a contour or add fullness in selected areas. This is different from a topical moisturiser: the gel is placed with a needle or cannula beneath the skin.

Swelling, bruising, sensitivity, temporary firmness, and uneven appearance can occur after injections. These effects may change as the area heals. The material can be broken down over time, so maintenance may be discussed, but timing differs between people and products.
