How is visa medical screening different for expat residents?

The screening is different from a general health check because its purpose is to meet residency or employment-related requirements. The exact process can vary with the applicant’s visa type, role, emirate and the instructions from the relevant authority.

A screening result is not a complete picture of long-term health. It may not assess every symptom or chronic condition, so separate medical care may still be needed for concerns found during or outside the appointment.

Check the approved centre and appointment instructions before attending. Bring the requested identification, application details and any documents listed by the authority. Wear practical clothing and tell staff about relevant medical conditions, medicines or accessibility needs.

Follow the centre’s instructions about food, fluids and timing. If you are unwell, pregnant or unable to complete a test, contact the centre before attending so the correct guidance can be given.

Seek separate clinical care for chest pain, severe breathing difficulty, fainting, sudden weakness, confusion or another urgent symptom; visa screening is not designed to replace emergency assessment. Ask the screening centre how to proceed if a non-urgent finding needs clarification.
