How quickly does palliative care relieve shortness of breath?

Breathlessness may relate to fluid, infection, anaemia, pain, airway narrowing, anxiety, or changes in the lungs or heart. The team may change medicines, treat a reversible problem, position you upright, guide breathing, use a fan or oxygen when appropriate, and reduce distress. These measures can make breathing feel more manageable even while tests or disease-directed treatment continue. The team will assess your breathing pattern, comfort, oxygen level when useful, and ability to speak or move.

Sit upright, loosen tight clothing, keep the room calm, and use the breathing technique taught by your team. Keep prescribed rescue medicines available and use them only as directed. Record what brings on the symptom, how long it lasts, and whether you have cough, pain, fever, or swelling.
