How quickly does an epidural steroid injection relieve radiating leg pain?

Radiating pain often follows irritation of a spinal nerve. An epidural steroid injection places medicine near the affected area to reduce inflammatory irritation, but the response depends on the pain source and the degree of nerve involvement. Early numbness or easier walking may fade as the anaesthetic wears off before any longer-lasting change appears. Improvement in leg pain does not necessarily mean the nerve has fully recovered, so strength and sensation remain relevant.

Record where the pain travels, how far you can walk, and whether tingling or weakness changes as the first effect fades. Follow the clinician's restrictions and rehabilitation advice; avoid using temporary numbness as a reason to lift or exercise heavily. Keep the injection site clean according to instructions and report changes in strength, sensation, or bladder and bowel function.
