How quickly does cancer rehabilitation relieve numbness in hands and feet?

A rehabilitation team can work on balance, walking, hand function, strength and ways to protect areas with reduced sensation. Improvement may first appear as safer movement, better confidence or fewer problems with daily tasks rather than a complete return of normal feeling. Numbness can persist when nerves are still recovering or when the treatment that irritated them is ongoing.

Tell your oncology team when the sensation started, where it is located and whether it affects buttons, writing, walking or balance. Follow the prescribed exercises and use recommended supports. Check hands and feet for blisters, burns or cuts because reduced sensation can hide an injury. Use care with hot water and sharp objects, and keep walkways clear.

Contact your treatment team promptly if numbness is worsening, spreading, causing falls, or making it difficult to grip or walk. Seek urgent help for sudden weakness, new trouble speaking, severe dizziness, loss of bladder or bowel control, or numbness that begins suddenly on one side.
