Uterine prolapse happens when the womb descends into the vaginal canal as pelvic support becomes weaker. A pessary holds the womb and nearby tissues in a supported position. This can lessen pressure or a bulge, yet it does not strengthen or replace the supporting tissues.

A first device may feel unfamiliar. The clinician may need to try another size or design so it remains secure during movement without pressing painfully or blocking urine or stool.

Follow the removal, cleaning and review plan given by your clinician. Check how the device feels when you walk, cough, sit and use the toilet. Note pain, pressure, discharge, bleeding, slipping and any change in bladder or bowel emptying.
