How long does vaginal pessary fitting take to work for cystocele?

A cystocele occurs when the front wall of the vagina bulges because the bladder and supporting tissues have shifted downward. A pessary sits inside the vagina to support that area. It may ease pressure, a bulge sensation or some bladder symptoms, but it does not repair the supporting tissues.

A device that feels painful, slips out, or causes new difficulty passing urine may be the wrong size, shape or position. Fitting is adjusted around your anatomy, activity and comfort rather than judged by the first device tried.

Follow the instructions for cleaning, removal and reinsertion if you have been taught to do these yourself. Notice whether the pessary stays in place during walking, coughing and urination. Keep scheduled checks even when symptoms improve, because the vaginal tissue and device need review.

Ask about discharge, spotting and lubrication, including which changes are expected and which should be reported. Do not force a device back into place if it is painful or difficult to remove.

Arrange a review for persistent pain, bleeding, foul-smelling discharge, sores, repeated slipping, or trouble emptying your bladder or bowel. Seek urgent care for inability to pass urine, severe pelvic pain, heavy bleeding or feeling faint.

Ask how long to test the first pessary, how to check its position, and when it should be removed or cleaned. Ask what symptoms mean the size or type needs changing and whether bladder symptoms should be assessed separately.
