The procedure places small particles into arteries supplying the uterus, reducing blood flow to targeted tissue. The body then needs time to respond, so pain, heavy bleeding or pressure may change in stages rather than on the day of treatment.

The early recovery period can include cramping, tiredness, nausea or a low fever. These effects are different from the longer-term response of adenomyosis symptoms. The amount and timing of improvement vary with the extent of disease, symptom pattern and other health factors.
