How long does typhoid vaccination take to work for typhoid fever?

The injectable vaccine and the oral vaccine use different schedules, and the time to protection is not identical. Your clinician or vaccination provider will tell you when protection is expected after the final required dose or completed course.

Vaccination lowers the chance of typhoid fever but does not prevent every infection. Food and water precautions remain necessary, especially where sanitation is limited. Tell the provider about pregnancy, immune conditions, allergies, and medicines before choosing a vaccine type.

Book vaccination as early as possible before travel or another foreseeable exposure. Bring your travel dates and destination, and check whether you need a primary course, repeat dose, or an alternative schedule. Complete every dose exactly as directed; missing a dose can change when protection is expected.

After vaccination, mild soreness, fatigue, or a low fever can occur. Rest, drink fluids, and follow the provider's advice about symptom relief. Vaccination is not a treatment for an existing infection.
