How long do topical corticosteroids take to work for scalp psoriasis?

Hair can make it hard to reach the skin, and scale may form a firm layer over the plaque. A liquid, foam, gel, or lotion may be selected for easier application than an ointment. The steroid calms inflammation; it does not instantly remove scale or prevent psoriasis from returning after treatment stops.

Part the hair, place the prescribed product on the scalp rather than along the hair shafts, and wash your hands afterward. Use only the amount and schedule advised. Do not scratch, pick scale, cover the scalp, or use a medicated product near the eyes without clear instructions. Arrange a review if scalp pain, oozing, crusting, hair loss, or marked tenderness develops, or if symptoms do not begin to settle during the advised course. Urgent assessment is appropriate for facial swelling, breathing difficulty, or a rapidly spreading blistering rash. Persistent scale may need a different or additional treatment.
