How long do topical corticosteroids take to work for dyshidrotic eczema?

Dyshidrotic eczema causes small, deep-seated blisters on the palms, fingers, or soles. A topical corticosteroid quiets the inflammatory response; it does not instantly dry or remove each blister. The skin may peel as the flare settles, and tenderness can remain after the itch improves.

Use the prescribed steroid exactly as directed, usually on clean, dry affected skin. Cool compresses can soothe itch. Protect hands from detergents and prolonged water exposure with suitable gloves, and moisturise after washing. Do not puncture blisters, because broken skin can become infected. Recurring flares may need assessment for irritants, allergy, or another treatment.

Arrange review if pain, warmth, pus, crusting, or swelling suggests infection, or if the rash prevents normal walking or hand use. Seek urgent help for rapidly spreading redness, fever, facial swelling, breathing trouble, or severe skin peeling. If the prescribed course brings no clear change, the diagnosis and treatment plan may need reassessment.
