These medicines reduce immune activity in the skin. A patch can stop changing before new colour is easy to see. Repigmentation may begin gradually, often first around hair follicles or at the edge of a patch, and response can differ between body areas. Facial and neck patches may respond more readily than areas such as fingertips, toes, or longstanding patches.

Lack of an obvious early colour change does not by itself show that treatment has failed. Your clinician may assess photographs, patch borders, and whether new areas are appearing before changing the plan.

Apply the prescribed thin layer to affected skin at the schedule given. Use it only on the areas discussed with your clinician, and wash your hands after application. Protect depigmented skin from sunburn because it has less natural pigment; follow the sun-protection advice provided for you.

Do not stop after a few applications simply because colour has not returned. Keep follow-up appointments so the response and any irritation can be reviewed. Burning, warmth, or itching can occur soon after application and may settle, but persistent or worsening discomfort deserves advice.

Contact your dermatology team if treated skin becomes increasingly red, swollen, painful, blistered, or develops oozing or crusting. Seek prompt medical help for swelling of the lips or face, trouble breathing, or a rapidly spreading severe rash. Arrange review if new white patches continue appearing or the treated area is changing despite following the plan.

Ask which body areas are being treated, when progress should be checked, how long to continue before judging the response, and what to do if application causes burning. Ask whether photographs or another treatment should be added if repigmentation remains limited.
