How long does topical antifungal treatment take to work for ringworm?

Itching and scaling may settle before the ring-shaped mark disappears. The edge of the rash should stop expanding, while changes in colour can linger after the fungus is controlled. A slow-looking skin mark does not always mean the medicine has failed.

Apply the medicine to clean, dry skin exactly as directed, including the surrounding rash edge. Finish the recommended course even when the area feels better. Keep the area dry, wash hands after application, and avoid sharing towels, clothing, or sports equipment. Do not use a steroid cream on the rash unless a clinician has advised it.

Arrange a review if the rash keeps spreading, becomes painful, develops pus, or shows no clear improvement after the expected course. Seek prompt care for facial or scalp involvement, extensive rash, or a weakened immune system, because these situations may need a different treatment plan.
