How long does topical antifungal treatment take to work for intertrigo?

A skin-fold rash can involve yeast or another fungus, moisture, friction, or irritation together. Early relief does not mean the infection has cleared, so follow the prescribed course and keep using the medicine as directed. Persistent moisture can slow recovery or allow the rash to return.

Apply a thin layer to clean, completely dry skin and wash your hands afterwards. Pat folds dry rather than rubbing them. Loose, breathable clothing and changing damp garments can reduce moisture and friction. Avoid adding steroid creams or fragranced products unless a clinician has recommended them, because they can alter the appearance of a fungal rash.

Arrange an assessment if there is no clear improvement after the advised treatment period, if the rash spreads beyond the fold, or if it repeatedly returns. Seek prompt care for increasing pain, warmth, swelling, pus, fever, or broken skin, as these features can point to another infection or a different diagnosis.
