How long does topical antifungal treatment take to work for nappy rash?

Yeast-related nappy rash can look bright red and involve the skin folds, sometimes with small spots beyond the main irritated area. Less redness, tenderness, and discomfort are reassuring signs. Because ordinary irritation, eczema, and bacterial infection can look similar, an antifungal should be used for a baby only when recommended by a healthcare professional.

Apply the recommended product in a thin layer to clean, gently dried skin, following the label or clinician's instructions. Change nappies frequently, rinse away stool and urine without scrubbing, and allow short periods of air exposure when practical. Avoid fragranced wipes and do not layer extra medicated creams unless advised.

Contact a clinician if the rash spreads, blisters, cracks, bleeds, oozes, or causes significant pain, or if there is no clear improvement after the advised course. Seek prompt care if your baby has a fever, seems unusually sleepy, feeds poorly, or appears unwell.
