Green nail syndrome is associated with bacteria in a separated or damaged nail environment. Treatment can address the infection, but stained nail material does not instantly regain its normal colour. Improvement is better judged by less discolouration near the nail base, reduced separation and no new spread than by the old tip alone.

Use the prescribed product exactly as directed and keep the nail clean and dry. Avoid nail polish, artificial nails, biting, picking and cutting into the skin. Do not share nail tools, and have instruments cleaned appropriately. If the nail remains lifted or repeatedly exposed to water, ask how to protect it while it grows.

Arrange review if the colour spreads, the nail becomes more painful, or there is no change near the base after the planned treatment period. Seek prompt care for swelling around the nail, pus, worsening warmth, fever, or red streaking.
