How long does telemedicine consultation take to work for influenza?

The consultation itself does not remove influenza. A clinician reviews your fever, cough, breathing, general health and when symptoms began. They may decide whether home care is suitable, whether antiviral treatment should be considered, or whether an in-person examination is needed. Treatment tends to be more useful when discussed early, particularly for people at higher risk of complications. Tiredness and cough can remain after fever starts settling, so improvement is not always immediate.

Follow the agreed medicine and rest plan, drink fluids if you can, and limit close contact while you feel unwell. Keep a record of temperature changes, breathing symptoms and your ability to drink. If the clinician asks for an examination or testing, arrange it promptly because a remote review cannot check oxygen levels or listen to the lungs.

Seek urgent medical help for severe breathing difficulty, chest pain, new confusion, fainting, blue or grey lips, or inability to keep fluids down. Contact a clinician again if symptoms are worsening, fever returns after improvement, or you are concerned because of pregnancy, older age, a weakened immune system or a long-term medical condition.
