How long does targeted therapy take to work for myelofibrosis?

Myelofibrosis affects blood production and may cause fatigue, night sweating, itching, bone discomfort, weight change or an enlarged spleen. A targeted medicine may influence inflammatory signals and blood-cell production, but different features can respond at different speeds.

Your haematology team may examine the spleen, review blood counts and ask about appetite, fullness, sleep, activity and other symptoms. The aim may be symptom control, improved blood counts or disease control rather than one immediate visible change.

Take the medicine according to the prescribed schedule and attend blood-count reviews. Record changes in fullness after eating, fatigue, itching, night sweating, pain, bruising and daily activity. Report new medicines or supplements because they may affect treatment decisions.

Ask when your clinician expects to reassess symptoms and spleen size, and what result would lead to continued treatment, a dose adjustment or another option. Never alter the dose on your own.

Contact your haematology team promptly for fever, infection symptoms, unusual bleeding, rapidly increasing abdominal fullness, severe pain, marked weakness or breathlessness. Seek urgent care for heavy bleeding, fainting, confusion, sudden severe abdominal pain or difficulty breathing.
