The procedure is intended to clear tissue from inside the uterus in a single treatment. Your symptoms may not stop at once: light bleeding or spotting and period-like cramps can continue as the uterus contracts and heals. Improvement should be judged alongside your examination and any scan or tests your clinician recommends. If tissue remains, bleeding may continue or return, and the team may discuss another treatment option. Recovery also depends on how far along the pregnancy was, your general health, and whether there was infection or significant blood loss.

Follow the discharge instructions, take prescribed medicines as directed, and rest when needed. Use sanitary pads if advised so you can observe the amount of bleeding; avoid inserting anything into the vagina until your clinician says it is safe. Keep your review appointment even when symptoms are easing. Ask when you can return to work, exercise, sex, or trying for another pregnancy. If bleeding or pain is not gradually improving, tell the gynaecology team rather than waiting for the next routine visit.

Seek urgent help for very heavy bleeding, dizziness or fainting, severe abdominal pain, fever, chills, offensive-smelling discharge, or feeling suddenly much worse. These signs can point to infection or blood loss and need prompt assessment. Call your care team if bleeding increases after it had started to settle, clots continue, or pain is not controlled by the recommended treatment.
