How long does subcision take to work for atrophic scars?

Atrophic scars are depressions caused by reduced support beneath the skin. Subcision uses a needle or similar instrument to separate the bands anchoring the depression. The release may improve the contour, while healing creates the opportunity for additional support. Bruising and swelling can disguise the early result. Scar shape, depth, tethering, skin tone, and previous procedures all influence how the area looks as it heals.

Use only the aftercare advised by your clinician, keep any small entry points clean, and avoid rubbing or picking the treated area. Limit sun exposure during healing and follow instructions about exercise, makeup, and other procedures. Take photographs under similar conditions at review instead of comparing the scar each day. Tell the clinic about medicines or supplements that may increase bruising.

Ask for medical advice if redness, warmth, pain, or swelling becomes more intense after initially improving, or if drainage develops. Fever, rapidly spreading redness, severe pain, facial swelling, or breathing difficulty requires urgent assessment.
