How long does statin therapy take to work for angina?

Angina is chest discomfort caused by reduced blood flow to the heart muscle. A statin lowers the amount of cholesterol made by the liver and supports long-term management of artery disease. You may not feel a noticeable change, because the medicine’s purpose is risk reduction rather than quick symptom relief.

Your clinician may arrange a blood test after starting or changing treatment to see how your body is responding and whether the plan needs adjustment. Angina symptoms still need their own treatment and assessment.

Take the statin as prescribed, usually at a consistent time, and do not stop it when you feel well without discussing this first. Tell the prescriber about other medicines, supplements, liver problems or previous muscle symptoms. Keep a record of chest discomfort, including what brought it on and what eased it.
