How long does pelvic floor repair surgery take to work for cystocele?

A cystocele is a bulge of the front vaginal wall associated with the bladder. Repair supports the weakened tissue, but the operated area needs time to heal. Temporary pressure, altered urine flow, urgency or difficulty emptying can occur as swelling changes; your surgical team should explain what is expected for your procedure.

Feeling better in one area does not mean all recovery restrictions have ended. Wound healing, comfortable movement and return of bladder habits may progress at different speeds. Follow-up allows the clinician to check the repair and address persistent symptoms.

Follow instructions about wound care, medicines, walking, lifting, bowel movements and sexual activity. Prevent straining by following the bowel plan supplied by your team, and increase activity in stages rather than testing the repair with heavy work.

Keep the follow-up appointment even if the bulge feels improved. Tell the team about worsening pressure, new leakage, unusual discharge or pain instead of changing restrictions yourself.

Contact the surgical team promptly for fever, increasing pain, heavy bleeding, foul-smelling discharge, a new or worsening bulge, or inability to empty the bladder. Urgent assessment is needed for severe pain, faintness or heavy bleeding.

Ask when you may drive, work, lift, exercise and have sex, which bladder changes need a call, and how the team will assess healing at follow-up.
