How long does oral antifungal treatment take to work for tinea incognito?

Tinea incognito is ringworm changed by a steroid cream or tablet. The border may be less obvious, and redness can flare when steroid use stops, even while the fungus is being treated. Reduced itch alone does not prove the infection has cleared; the clinician may assess the shape, scale, and spread over time.

Take the oral antifungal exactly as prescribed and do not shorten the course because the rash looks calmer. Do not restart a steroid cream unless the treating clinician specifically directs it. Keep the area clean and dry, avoid sharing towels or clothing, and wash garments that touch the rash. Tell the prescriber about all medicines and any nausea, dark urine, yellowing skin, or unusual tiredness.

Contact the prescriber if the rash expands, becomes painful, develops pus, or shows no meaningful change within the review window they gave you. Seek urgent care for breathing difficulty, swelling of the lips or tongue, blistering over a large area, or severe illness. Do not treat a worsening flare by increasing steroid use on your own.

Ask whether steroid exposure should be stopped or tapered, how the diagnosis was confirmed, what improvement should appear first, and when the rash should be reassessed. Check which symptoms could signal a medicine reaction and whether anyone sharing towels or close contact needs evaluation.
