How long does operative hysteroscopy take to work for uterine septum?

A uterine septum is a band of tissue dividing part of the uterine cavity. During operative hysteroscopy, the surgeon can divide or remove this tissue through the cervix, without an abdominal incision. The cavity then heals, and the timing of a future pregnancy depends on the depth of the septum, the extent of treatment, and your clinician’s assessment. Correcting the cavity addresses a structural factor; it does not explain or treat every possible reason for pregnancy loss or infertility.

Expect some cramping or light bleeding while the uterus recovers and follow the restrictions given at discharge. Take prescribed medicines as directed and attend the review arranged by your surgeon. Ask whether imaging is needed to check the cavity and when sex, exercise, and trying to conceive are appropriate. If you are having fertility or miscarriage investigations, keep those appointments because septum treatment may be one part of care.

Seek medical advice for worsening pain, heavy bleeding, fever, foul-smelling discharge, dizziness, or a general deterioration after surgery. Emergency care is appropriate for collapse, severe abdominal pain, or trouble breathing.

Ask how much of the septum was treated, how healing will be checked, when pregnancy is safe to plan, and whether any additional fertility or miscarriage assessment is recommended.
