How long does microneedling take to work for atrophic scars?

Atrophic scars form where the skin has lost supporting tissue, leaving depressions or uneven texture. Microneedling makes controlled micro-injuries that stimulate repair, so the change develops as the skin remodels. Shallow scars may respond differently from sharply edged or deeply tethered scars. Skin colour, scar age, previous treatments, and ongoing inflammation can all affect the visible result.

Arrive with clean skin and disclose acne activity, cold sores, eczema, keloid history, medicines, and recent procedures. After treatment, follow the clinic's cleansing and product instructions, avoid picking or exfoliating, and protect the area from sunlight. Wait for the planned review before deciding whether another session is appropriate; treating too soon can irritate healing skin.

Ask the treating clinic to review worsening pain, heat, swelling, pus, spreading redness, or fever. Persistent crusting, marked colour change, or a raised scar should also be assessed. Get urgent help for facial swelling that affects breathing or swallowing. These concerns are about healing or reaction and do not indicate that the scar treatment has simply finished working.
