How long does mental health assessment take to work for ADHD?

An assessment usually reviews attention, activity level, impulsivity, emotional wellbeing, sleep, learning, work, relationships, and symptoms across settings. The clinician may ask about childhood patterns and gather information from a parent, partner, teacher, or other trusted person when appropriate. Depending on the findings, next steps may include education, practical adjustments, talking therapy, or discussion of ADHD medicine with an appropriate prescriber.

Do not wait for a routine assessment if you feel unsafe, have thoughts of harming yourself or someone else, cannot care for yourself, or are experiencing severe agitation, confusion, or loss of contact with reality.
