How long does laparoscopic ovarian cystectomy take to work for ovarian torsion?

Torsion happens when an ovary twists and affects its blood supply. Surgery aims to untwist and assess the ovary, and a cystectomy may remove a cyst that contributed to the twisting. The surgeon may need to make decisions during the operation based on the ovary’s appearance and whether it can be preserved. Pain can ease after the twist is treated, but abdominal tenderness, nausea or tiredness may remain during healing. The final procedure may be different from a planned cystectomy, so your surgeon’s explanation is more useful than a standard recovery timetable. Arrange follow-up to discuss what was found and what it means for the other ovary, future symptoms and fertility.

Follow the discharge plan closely and use medicines as directed. Rest, walk gently and avoid strenuous activity or lifting until your surgical team says it is suitable.
